SARAH D. DRAKE AIA
Sarah Drake, AIA is an architectural design firm in Pittsburgh, PA specializing in custom residential design. We strive to create living spaces that are beautiful and uniquely personal to the owners. We are passionate about both modern and classic design. This full-service design firm melds these two languages of architecture with an approach that is fresh, clean and connected to the uniqueness of place. From rough pencil sketches to finished spaces we value the client’s aspirations and participation for sustainable and contextual solutions that is uniquely theirs.
I wanted to be an architect in my teens but my education path took me to art school and then a photography major prior to getting a master in architecture from NC State. Residential work has always been an interest and my thesis, in fact, explored the transformation of the notion of home from rural Carolina to its ever expanding urban sprawl.
Prior to going into solo practice in 2003, I had the pleasure and experience of working for Clearscapes in Raleigh, NC and BCJ in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a visiting critic at NCSU and an adjunct studio professor at CMU.
Sarah is an active GCAC member who has documented gardens for the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian and is exploring the network of our Pittsburgh City Steps.
When not designing beautiful homes, Sarah can be found out in the garden or relaxing on the Chesapeake Bay.
